About Wim van Passel – Author & Nature Photographer
Wim van Passel (’s-Hertogenbosch, 1946) is an internationally renowned nature photographer and author, known for his impressive large-format photography and his poetic reflections on life and nature. After a 35-year career as a successful advertising and industrial photographer, during which he worked with his company Van Passel – Foto BV for leading clients and realized innovative productions, he decided to take his life in a new direction.
From advertising photography to the wilderness
When the market changed and digital technologies emerged, Wim and his wife Jeannette decided to make a radical change: a life dedicated to unspoiled nature. This led to the nature photography project "Timeless Moments, " with a mission to capture the beauty of the last remnants of untouched wilderness. Using large-format cameras, he travels to remote areas to take pictures that are not only aesthetically impressive, but also convey a powerful message: preserve and protect what we have left before climate change makes it disappear forever.
Collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund
From the outset, Wim made his photos available free of charge to the image bank of the International World Wildlife Fund in Switzerland. His images are used worldwide to illustrate the WWF's objectives and raise awareness of the vulnerability and value of our natural environment.
Photography as poetry
Wim van Passel's work is more than just photography. His images are often accompanied by poetic reflections written on the spot. In this way, he manages to touch not only the eye, but also the heart. With more than 125 international exhibitions, countless lectures, workshops, and publications, he has earned a permanent place in the world of nature photography. Six books about his work have now been published, in which image and word reinforce each other.
Latest book: De wrede schoonheid van onze natuur
In his latest nature photography book, De wrede schoonheid van onze natuur (The Cruel Beauty of Our Nature), Wim van Passel shares for the first time the full story behind his more than 65 nature photography expeditions for the World Wildlife Fund. Together with his wife Jeannette, he traveled to the most unspoiled and often inhospitable places on earth—from the North and South Poles to the rainforests of South America, from the savannas of Africa to the mountain peaks of the Himalayas.
In this comprehensive book, Wim combines over 380 unique nature photographs with compelling travel stories and personal reflections. He not only reports on these extraordinary expeditions, but also shares his outspoken opinions on life, evolution, the cruelty of nature, and the complex, often incomprehensible way in which people treat each other and our planet.
De wrede schoonheid van onze natuur is more than a photo book: it is a life story, a philosophical reflection, and an urgent call for contemplation. This collection of breathtaking photos and penetrating reflections takes you to places that may be gone tomorrow. A special gift for every nature lover and a book that will change your view of the world forever.
